Cambodia’s water resources minister and an AIIB delegation discussed flood and drought mitigation and wider water management cooperation.

Water Resources and Meteorology Minister Thor Chetha met an Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) delegation led by mission chief David Ginting on August 25. The bank expressed support for a project to reduce flood and drought risks in Cambodia.
The minister thanked AIIB for its support for Cambodian water and meteorology projects, including integrated water resources management (IWRM), climate-adaptive irrigation and sustainable, resilient agriculture (CAISAR), and flood and drought mitigation.
The report describes the cooperation as aligned with Phase One of the Pentagonal Strategy of the government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet during the seventh National Assembly mandate.
The minister said Cambodia would deepen cooperation with AIIB, and pointed to the bank’s role in water management investment to improve water security, support economic growth and build climate resilience. Measures include drainage and water diversion in urban areas of several provinces to reduce flood and drought risks as the climate warms.
