The public works ministry reported 65.38 percent progress by the end of August 2025 on the four-lane upgrade between Skun and Kampong Cham.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport reported 65.38 percent progress by the end of August 2025 on widening National Road 7 between Skun and Kampong Cham to four lanes. On August 27, Secretary of State and project director លឹម ស៊ីដេនីន led an inspection and discussed roadside planting, drainage and weigh stations for overweight vehicles.
The inspection also involved an undersecretary of state, the heads of Kampong Cham’s public works and environment departments, district deputy governors, ministry technicians, representatives of China Road and Bridge Corporation and representatives of Guangzhou Wan’an, the technical supervision consultant identified as WACC.
The 45.48-kilometre section runs from Skun Roundabout in Cheung Prey district to Kizuna Bridge Roundabout in Kampong Cham town. The project was scheduled to finish in 2027, but at the reported pace could finish a year early, in 2026.
According to the ministry’s progress account, construction work began on March 11, 2024. The upgrade calls for a nine-centimetre asphalt concrete surface and a 24.5-metre width, eight new bridges totalling 156 metres, repairs to seven bridges totalling 116 metres, stormwater and sewage drains and other traffic infrastructure.
National Road 7 is an important economic route. At Skun it connects with National Road 6 toward Phnom Penh, Kampong Thom and Siem Reap. Roads 8 and 11 lead toward Prey Veng, and roads 71C and 73 toward Tboung Khmum. Roads 76 and 78 connect to northeastern provinces including Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri. The route also links to the Greater Mekong Subregion road network.
