The identification department called for agencies to help returnees and other residents obtain documents needed for work and daily services.

Cambodia’s General Department of Identification convened a meeting on speeding up identity documents for Cambodians returning from Thailand and other residents with insufficient papers. It asked agencies to coordinate and help people get the documents they need in daily life.
The meeting followed instructions from Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Sokha. Lieutenant General តុប នេត, director general of the department, chaired it via Zoom on the morning of August 29, 2025.
He said many returnees and some other residents had lost documents, had damaged or expired ones, or lacked paperwork. Some had no birth certificate, residence book or Cambodian national identity card. He said this made it harder to find work and apply for everyday services.
