Cambodia’s prime ministerial spokesperson said China backed ASEAN ceasefire monitoring and pledged humanitarian support at the August 30 meeting.

Phnom Penh — Meas Sophorn, secretary of state at the Office of the Council of Ministers and spokesperson for the prime minister, said China supported the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire, ASEAN ceasefire monitoring and the early establishment of an ASEAN Observer Team led by Malaysia.
At a briefing on Prime Minister Hun Manet’s August 30 to September 1 trip for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus summit in Tianjin, China, Meas Sophorn said President Xi Jinping had pledged continued support for Cambodia’s self-reliant development and protection of its national sovereignty.
Xi also announced 20 million yuan in humanitarian assistance for Cambodia to help repair damage and relieve hardship caused by the armed clashes in late July.
On the afternoon of August 30, 2025, Hun Manet led a Cambodian government delegation in bilateral talks with Xi on the sidelines of the SCO Plus summit.
Xi welcomed Hun Manet and the Cambodian delegation and said the visit was an opportunity to strengthen the countries’ longstanding friendship and solidarity. In the talks, Hun Manet also referred to Xi’s state visit to Cambodia in April.
