The proposed site is around Thmei village, Chey Otdom commune, Lumphat district.\nThat day the provincial government, civil aviation authorities and other organisations held a video conference to discuss how to implement and develop the project. A secretary of state at the aviation secretariat chaired the meeting, with representatives from several provincial departments.\nProvincial representatives said an airport could boost the local economy and tourism and create jobs for residents and transport workers.\nCivil aviation officials said setting aside land was the first step. A decision on whether the project would go ahead would require a wider assessment of the local economy’s potential.\nThe national infrastructure master plan released by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in 2024 calls for a better domestic airport network. It treats a Mondulkiri airport as a priority for the northeast.\nCambodia currently has three international airports and a domestic airport in Koh Kong province.
