Before Techo International Airport starts operations on September 9, a Buddhist ceremony is planned for its nine-tonne, nine-metre bronze Buddha statue.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Television, September 5 — With Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh due to open, a nine-tonne, nine-metre bronze Buddha statue has been installed. A Buddhist ceremony is planned in the coming days, with 18 senior monks to be invited to lead prayers and consecrate the statue.
The statue represents reverence for the nation, religion and king. It is also intended as a dignified cultural symbol for Cambodian and international passengers and as a spiritual legacy at the airport.
Techo International Airport is scheduled to begin operations on September 9, 2025. The consecration and opening ceremonies highlight the significance of the national project and express hopes for Cambodia’s prosperity.
