Bhumjaithai leader Anutin won Thailand’s House vote on September 5 with conditional support from the opposition People’s Party.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Television, September 5 — Thailand’s House of Representatives voted today to elect Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul as the next prime minister. Royal appointment was still pending. If appointed, he would become the country’s 32nd prime minister and its third head of government in two years.
Anutin was born in 1966 to a family with roots in Guangdong, China. A longtime politician, he previously served as deputy prime minister, interior minister and health minister. After leaving the governing coalition, Bhumjaithai secured support from the opposition People’s Party on condition that the new government dissolve the House within four months and pursue constitutional reform.
Analysts said the vote introduced a new variable into Thai politics. Stability would depend on compromises between parties and whether political commitments were honoured.
