A South China Sea depression was forecast to develop into the year’s 16th storm, bringing rain, thunderstorms and gusts through September 9. Forecast coverage was 50 percent in the plains, 60 percent in the highlands and 45 percent along the coast.

Rain, thunder, lightning and gusty winds will continue across almost all Cambodian provinces and the capital until September 9, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. A depression in the South China Sea will develop into the year’s 16th storm, affecting the Andaman Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Mekong basin’s southwest monsoon and Cambodia.
The ministry said rain, thunder, lightning and gusts could cover 50 percent of the plains, including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh.
In the highlands—Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek range and Cardamom Mountains—rain, thunder, lightning and gusts could cover 60 percent of the area. Along the coast, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and the Bokor range, coverage could reach 45 percent, with waves of 0.50 to two metres.
