The project was currently at the stage of surveying and addressing impacts on residents.\nThe impacts are being addressed through the government’s official mechanism, led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance with participation from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, local authorities and residents in the affected areas. Phorn Rim added that the team was working on the second section in Kandal Province, measuring, surveying and compiling detailed information on buildings, homes and rice fields in Koh Thom District. The team had interviewed affected residents, collected their fingerprints and held continuing discussion and coordination forums.\nHe added that, barring changes or other problems, the project would be completed around 2028. The Funan Techo Canal is regarded as a historic project that will transform Cambodia’s navigation and inland and maritime transport.\nThe historic waterway will cross four provinces—Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep—and is designed for vessels carrying up to 3,000 DWT to travel in both directions and pass one another safely.\nThe project will help create a comprehensively connected domestic waterway network, fill gaps in Cambodia’s inland and maritime transport systems, improve efficiency, reduce transport distances and costs, strengthen competitiveness and ensure national economic independence.\nOnce completed, the project will improve connections between domestic transport networks and national and international maritime routes, modernise transport infrastructure and support a sustainable national economy.\nThe project will also benefit the development of water resources, irrigation, agriculture, tourism, trade and construction, reduce transport and logistics costs, increase productivity and create many new jobs for the public.\nThe large, historically significant project was initiated by Hun Sen, a former prime minister who was serving as Senate president at the time of this report. Its implementation is being continued by the seventh-mandate government under Prime Minister Hun Manet, to leave a historic legacy for future generations.\nSource: Ministry of Information\nBy: Preah Sihanouk Provincial Television","contentScope":"full","proof":{"publishedSourceRevision":"1","publishedWorkingVersionId":"17172","languageVersionId":"15243","visibilityVersion":"2","versionToken":"a1.lPskKWymzubV50YoRhlrMvO1HOdBCxZsqlaYHAkxvn0"},"availableLocales":["zh","en","km"],"attributes":{"sourceLocale":"km","translationKind":"machine","nodeId":"12","authorText":"","sourceName":""},"references":[],"links":[],"publishedAt":"2025-10-22T04:06:46Z"}
