FIFA and ASEAN signed an MoU on a new tournament, with its format to be developed alongside regional football bodies.

A new competition, the FIFA ASEAN Cup, is to be launched as part of an agreement between FIFA and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to promote football development across the region. Could Cambodia’s Koupreys lift the inaugural trophy for their supporters?
The announcement came during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October, when FIFA President Gianni Infantino and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn signed a memorandum of understanding.
The competition will bring together national teams from all 11 ASEAN member states: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and the newest member, Timor-Leste.
The report says the FIFA ASEAN Cup will unite countries and anticipates considerable success, as it would support national-team football in ASEAN and sports development throughout Southeast Asia.
World football’s governing body will work with regional stakeholders, including the Asian Football Confederation, the ASEAN Football Federation and the relevant FIFA member associations, to determine the event’s format.
