Germany encouraged continued dialogue, while the report cited a conditional forecast of economic losses if the border remained closed through year-end.

Following the signing of the Kuala Lumpur peace agreement, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office called on Cambodia and Thailand to begin reopening border crossings and fully resume trade relations. On 28 October 2025, it said the ceasefire agreement reached by Cambodia and Thailand at the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur was an important step towards peace and stability in the region. Germany also urged the two sides to continue dialogue and cooperation, reopen border trade and restore their previous relations in all sectors.
Separately, according to a forecast by an economic committee under the Thai government led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as reported by Bloomberg, Thailand’s revenue losses would worsen and could rise to 100 billion baht, approximately US$3.1 billion, if the border remained closed until the end of this year.
Major countries including the United States, France, Japan, Australia and Germany, together with countries in the ASEAN region, have announced support for the Cambodia–Thailand peace agreement reached in Malaysia, with the aim of restoring relations between the two countries.
