The Bank of Thailand launched a China–Thailand cross-border QR payment link on October 30, connecting Thai banks with Chinese payment platforms. Chinese visitors in Thailand can use Alipay, WeChat Pay or the UnionPay app to scan merchants' Thai QR codes. Travel between the two countries totalled 8.8 million visits in 2024.
The Bank of Thailand and three Chinese payment institutions established the link through National ITMX's technology. Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai Bank handle settlement. Initial participating banks include Kasikornbank, ICBC (Thai) and Siam Commercial Bank, with more banks expected to join later.
The link is intended to support trade, investment and tourism. Thailand's payment links now cover nine countries and regions, including China.
