Cambodian and Korean police launched a joint task force in Phnom Penh on November 10 for round-the-clock responses to cases involving Koreans, focusing on scams, unlawful detention and trafficking.

A joint safety task force established by Cambodian and South Korean police was launched in Phnom Penh on November 10 to improve rapid responses to security incidents affecting Koreans in Cambodia. The two countries’ law enforcement agencies signed a memorandum of understanding that day, marking closer bilateral policing cooperation.
The task force would operate around the clock, receiving reports and investigating cases involving Koreans, particularly cross-border online fraud, unlawful detention and human trafficking. South Korea planned to station five to seven officers in Cambodia to handle reports, assist rescues and coordinate repatriation, improving information sharing and on-site cooperation.
The decision followed concern over several recent cases of Koreans deceived or abducted in Cambodia. When Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met in late October, they agreed to use the mechanism to protect Koreans in Cambodia and deepen bilateral enforcement cooperation.
