The United States urged Cambodia and Thailand to maintain stability and implement their peace agreement while gathering more information about a landmine incident that injured Thai soldiers, Reuters reported.

The United States was gathering more information about an incident in which Thai soldiers stepped on a landmine near the Cambodian border, while urging Cambodia and Thailand to maintain stability and implement the peace agreement signed in the presence of US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to a Reuters report on November 12.
The appeal followed Thailand’s decision to suspend implementation of its peace agreement with Cambodia after three Thai soldiers were injured in a landmine incident during a border patrol, testing the ceasefire mediated by Trump.
Thailand accused Cambodia of planting new mines along their disputed border. Cambodia’s Defence Ministry rejected the allegation and urged Thailand to avoid patrols in areas containing old wartime mines. Cambodia remained committed to working with Thailand under the peace agreement signed in October.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday instructed the Defence Ministry to suspend all implementation of the peace agreement with Cambodia indefinitely and declared that peace had ended.
