Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport announced the closure of all schools in Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province, and some schools along the Cambodian–Thai border because of Thai military fire into Cambodian territory on the morning of December 8, 2025. That morning, pupils at Svay Chrum Primary School were seen running from school back home, while some parents came to collect their children.
According to a Defence Ministry press release issued on the morning of December 8, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, an undersecretary of state and ministry spokesperson, told the public and journalists that Thai forces had begun firing on Cambodian forces in An Ses, Preah Vihear province, from about 5:40 a.m. They then continued firing in the Ta Moan Thom temple area using several tanks, and in the Preah Vihear temple, 5 Makara and Chamkar Chek areas.
The report said that despite uninterrupted Thai fire from December 7 through the morning of December 8, Cambodian forces continued to exercise restraint and respect agreements and peaceful solutions in accordance with international law. It said Cambodian forces had not returned fire during this second renewed incident and continued monitoring the situation with the utmost vigilance. By KPS99TV.
