According to a government statement issued Tuesday, an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 10,000 cases as health authorities urgently work to contain the spread of the deadly disease across several African countries. According to the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ministry of Health, this is the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak in history, with nearly half of those infected dying. The disease, declared a public health emergency since August, is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which no vaccine or approved treatment is currently available to halt its spread. It should also be noted that this outbreak has spread beyond its resurgence in Africa, reaching five countries, including Senegal, Uganda, Nigeria and France. Source: Rithy
