Albania's parliament became the scene of heated verbal exchanges and clashes yesterday, Thursday, 29 October, after opposition MPs set off coloured smoke to disrupt the session and demand that Prime Minister Edi Rama resign. Opposition MPs  gathered, banged on tables, threw water bottles  and set off coloured smoke. They held photographs of demonstrators injured in a police crackdown, along with banners supporting the student movement, and shouted demands for Rama to step down immediately. The unrest began in May over a development project in a scenic coastal area linked to the family of US President Donald Trump , while student-led protests  that began over the land project spread into a major anti-corruption movement and calls for education reform. Clashes broke out between demonstrators and police,  leaving more than 350  people injured. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rama accused "outside forces" such as Russia and Iran of being behind the spread of disinformation,  and imposed fines of up to approximately 5,500 euros on people taking part in the demonstrations.
