The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China officially confirmed a decision to expel 33 senior officials from the party at a four-day meeting in Beijing that concluded on Thursday. The meeting approved decisions to remove those officials from their posts and expel them for serious violations of discipline and law. Those expelled include: Zhang Youxia, a former top Chinese military commander, and Liu Jianchao, former head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, who had been seen as a prominent candidate for foreign minister. The meeting also voted to elect Zhang Shengmin to the Politburo. Zhang Shengmin, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, is one of only two members of the Central Military Commission, the other being President Xi Jinping himself. Article: Rithy
