Preah Sihanouk Provincial Television, August 29. Thailand’s Constitutional Court announced its ruling ending Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s term as prime minister over constitutional eligibility requirements. The ruling took effect from her July 1 suspension.
The case began after an audio recording of a mid-June telephone conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen about the border situation leaked and prompted controversy in Thailand. On July 1 the court accepted a petition and suspended her from performing the duties of prime minister.
Paetongtarn appeared in court on August 21 and submitted her closing statement by August 25 as requested. The court announced its ruling on August 29.
Thai media said her dismissal could lead to a government reshuffle or an early election.
