The Cambodian government, through its northeastern investment promotion task force, has received incentive applications for 14 projects in agriculture, agro-industry, tourism and multipurpose port infrastructure. Their combined investment is estimated at US$1.3 billion.
The proposals were submitted at an internal task-force secretariat meeting at the Ministry of Economy and Finance on August 29. Hean Sahib, adviser to the prime minister and chair of the task force, took part. Prime Minister Hun Manet formally launched the 2025–2028 special investment promotion programme for the four northeastern provinces around April 9, 2025.
Hean Sahib urged the secretariat to accelerate implementation. Alongside facilitating and encouraging new projects, he called for visiting existing factories and enterprises, listening to investment concerns and helping to resolve them. The aim is to expand production, especially of substitute goods, to meet domestic demand and move toward exports amid the Cambodia–Thailand dispute and Cambodian consumers’ tendency to avoid Thai products.
He also called for broader publicity for the programme. The task force serves as a one-stop shop for reviewing applications, assessing and granting incentives, and helping to simplify investment procedures for businesses and investors in the four northeastern provinces.
