Preah Sihanouk Provincial Television, September 5 — Cambodians expressed excitement and pride ahead of the September 9, 2025 opening of Techo International Airport. The new airport will replace Phnom Penh International Airport and become the country’s new gateway. The 2,600-hectare site lies about 20 kilometres south of Phnom Penh and straddles parts of Kandal Stung district in Kandal and Bati district in Takeo. Its 4F classification allows it to handle large long-haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800. Residents said the airport was a national achievement that could attract more international visitors, boost tourism and support nearby businesses. People in Kandal living close to the site were especially eager to see it in person and looked forward to new economic opportunities. Industry observers said the airport would expand Cambodia’s air transport capacity and advance its economy and international links. Compiled by this station.
