Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement on October 24 reaffirming the government’s firm commitment to combating all forms of transnational crime, including online scams, human trafficking and other cybercrimes, and pledging to safeguard people’s safety, dignity and social well-being. The statement said Cambodia had conducted sustained nationwide operations over the past two years, uncovering and dismantling multiple online scam groups and holding those involved accountable under the law. “These efforts include strengthening enforcement of laws against human trafficking, cybercrime, fraud and money laundering.” The government has taken a series of administrative measures, including revoking the business licences of 120 companies, shutting down more than 1,000 gambling websites and freezing illicit accounts linked to digital fraud. Law enforcement agencies have also carried out targeted operations nationwide, closing illegal compounds, arresting hundreds of suspects and rescuing victims. The statement also said Cambodia was establishing a national cybercrime task force, enhancing digital-forensics capabilities and cooperating with other countries to strengthen cross-border law enforcement and cyber-governance systems. “These achievements demonstrate Cambodia’s firm determination to eradicate cybercrime, safeguard digital security and promote a healthy regional cyberspace,” the statement said. Cambodia has also worked actively with regional and international partners, including South Korea, China and ASEAN member states, through joint investigations, intelligence-sharing and mutual legal assistance. These efforts have dismantled several large scam networks, led to prosecutions of criminal masterminds and helped repatriate victims from multiple countries. According to Cambodia’s special committee for combating online scams, 3,455 online-scam suspects from 20 countries were apprehended nationwide in the past four months alone. Compiled by the station
