South Korean President Lee Jae-myung plans to meet Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, next Monday. The two sides will focus on deepening their bilateral strategic partnership, strengthening cooperation against cross-border online fraud and promoting regional security cooperation. South Korea’s National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac confirmed the schedule.
Sources said Prime Minister Hun Manet would arrive in Kuala Lumpur on October 25 to attend the ASEAN Summit from October 26 to 28. Although the Cambodian government had not officially announced specific details of the meeting, the dialogue was seen as an important opportunity for Cambodia and South Korea to address technology-related cross-border crime and improve regional public security cooperation.
In recent years, South Korea and Cambodia have deepened cooperation in cybersecurity, fraud prevention, judicial law enforcement and repatriation. At the start of this year, after a South Korean student was killed in Cambodia by Chinese suspects, South Korea promptly sent senior officials to coordinate with Cambodia, facilitating the safe repatriation of 64 South Korean citizens from Cambodia and demonstrating efficient cooperation in preventing cross-border crime and protecting citizens.
South Korean National Assembly representative Kim Seok-ki also recently visited Cambodia to observe local measures and achievements against online fraud and highly commended Cambodian police for their positive role in international law enforcement cooperation.
