Speaking at the national centre for voluntary and community-based drug treatment and rehabilitation in កែវផុស, Sihanoukville Governor Mang Sineth said: “I am happy to see you, but I do not want to see you here.” On the morning of October 25, he delivered assistance from Cambodia’s prime minister and his wife to nearly 2,000 people—1,863 in total—receiving treatment at the centre.
The governor expressed disappointment that, while factories and enterprises in Sihanoukville faced substantial labour shortages, these young people were at the centre. He wanted them to become good citizens and friends who contributed to national development. He stressed that drug involvement prevented young people from helping the country and instead burdened the government. Having good, lawful employment and improving family livelihoods was itself a contribution to socioeconomic and national development.
He urged residents to regard their time at the កែវផុស national voluntary and community-based drug treatment and rehabilitation centre as a lesson and life experience, and never return after leaving. He said accepting residents was painful rather than a source of happiness; the more people arrived, the greater the pain. He hoped they would work to build better futures after leaving. The report recalls that this was his second delivery of food, supplies and funds to the centre, following the first in June 2025.
