Cambodia’s and Thailand’s defence ministries recently agreed to establish a joint working group formally within two weeks to strengthen cross-border cooperation against telecom and online scams.
The report says Thai Defence Minister Nattaphon and Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha jointly announced the decision after meeting on the sidelines of regional meetings in Kuala Lumpur. They said the group would target leaders and key members of transnational scam organisations and improve investigations through intelligence sharing and exchanges of evidence and witness testimony.
The countries also agreed to establish a witness-protection mechanism to safeguard those involved in cases and preserve testimony. They said these measures would help curb cross-border cyber scams and enhance regional safety and stability.
The report described the cooperation as an important development in regional security and law enforcement, reflecting both sides’ determination and coordination against transnational crime.
