On 28 October 2025, the Anti-Fake News Commission held a meeting to review its work over the preceding months and set new directions for continuing the fight against fake news, which was rising at a worrying rate, particularly false information about border conflicts. According to its report for the first nine months of 2025, the commission recorded 2,810 cases it classified as false information, distortion of facts, incitement disrupting society, insults or information causing border disputes. Of these, 2,122 concerned the Royal Government and border issues. As a body led by the Ministry of Information, the commission said it had taken measures aimed at “putting out the fire, rather than sitting and fanning the smoke”: 1. Strengthen implementation of the Press Law and bring it up to date; 2. Apply and respect journalistic ethics; 3. Build the capacity of journalists and social media influencers; 4. Provide media and information literacy; 5. Strengthen the dissemination of accurate, useful content with clear sources; 6. Conduct nationwide anti-fake-news campaigns and build mechanisms from national to subnational levels; 7. Cooperate with regional countries on mechanisms within an “information diplomacy” framework; 8. Improve official information provision and timely responses; 9. Study legislation concerning the fight against false information. The commission urged the public, especially journalists, to continue participating in the fight against false information: do not create or spread it, and say “no” to untrue information. False information should be countered with true, accurate and trustworthy information. The commission stressed that responding immediately by disseminating truthful information was the most effective way to counter fake news, because prolonged delays could create risks and seriously affect society.
