Thai police recently reported breaking up a major online-gambling case involving more than 100 million baht, approximately RMB20 million. Eight suspects were arrested, including a former Muay Thai champion who had received a 2016 boxer-of-the-year title. According to the Thai technology-crime suppression division, police monitoring unusual financial transactions identified large-scale allegedly illegal transfers involving a website called G2G69BET. Investigators linked it to the former champion and conducted simultaneous raids at nine locations in Chon Buri and Lamphun provinces. Six suspects, including the former boxer, were arrested in Chon Buri. Police said he stated that he had operated the gambling website since 2022, turning to online betting as boxing bouts became less frequent. Officers seized ATM cards, computers and phones. Two website administrators were arrested in Lamphun, where further communications equipment was seized. Police said the eight suspects had been referred to prosecutors over allegations including organising fraud, illegal advertising and money laundering, and that investigations into the money trail and other participants would continue with the aim of completely dismantling the online-gambling syndicate.
