Tourism Minister Huot Hak met Ma Tieqiao, chairman of Guilin Junda Transport, in Phnom Penh on October 29. The company expressed interest in investing hundreds of millions of US dollars in an integrated development project along the Siem Reap River. They discussed the latest progress and reached consensus on the next steps for cooperation.
The minister welcomed the investment interest, saying it could revitalise Siem Reap tourism and support the local economy and jobs, and said the government was improving infrastructure, the business environment and visitor safety to encourage investors and tourism development.
The meeting took place within a framework approved by the government. The company visited Siem Reap in September to study the project's feasibility. The visit also coincided with a Cambodian delegation's participation in the 14th Suzhou Cultural and Creative Design Industry Expo and the Cambodia Festival.
The company said it would complete its investment plan and submit a formal application. Founded in 1982, it operates passenger transport stations and more than 300 routes, employs 3,800 people and has activities in passenger transport, aviation, logistics and hotels.
