The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority said Cambodia and countries in the Mekong-Lancang region had made progress in mine clearance, but landmines and explosive remnants of war remained a threat requiring continued cooperation.
Ly Panharith, Secretary-General of the authority, made the remarks while closing a regional workshop in Siem Reap on the afternoon of October 29, 2025. The workshop brought together experts from international organisations and national agencies from China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia.
He thanked countries in the region and development partners for their cooperation and contributions towards a future free of landmines and explosive remnants of war.
Cambodia has become an example in global mine action, including through the Siem Reap-Angkor Declaration and Action Plan 2025–2029. The workshop formed part of the Mekong-Lancang mine action cooperation project supported by China's Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund.
