Cambodia’s annual Water Festival was scheduled for 4–6 November. One of the country’s three major traditional festivals, it marks the end of the rainy season and the start of the fishing season, expressing gratitude for nature and the harvest. Although Phnom Penh suspended large events such as boat races because of border tensions, most provinces still planned varied celebrations for residents and visitors. Under a government resolution issued on 7 August, the suspension of Phnom Penh’s events reflected Cambodia–Thailand border and security concerns. The government was focusing on supporting displaced people and implementing the ceasefire agreement. Public servants, workers and employees would still receive the normal three-day public holiday despite the capital’s postponed celebrations. Local authorities had begun preparations for boat races, blessing ceremonies and community festivities. Officials advised residents and visitors to check local arrangements, plan their travel and stay safe during the holiday. The government also called on local authorities to keep addressing livelihoods and security: helping displaced border residents, supporting employment for returning migrant workers, stabilising prices, securing supplies, preventing floods and disasters, and strengthening public order. The report said the festival remained a symbol of Cambodian unity and gratitude, even with Phnom Penh’s boat races paused for the year. Compiled report
