According to Cambodian media, the country’s national carrier planned to introduce COMAC C909 aircraft into commercial service in mid-2026, describing the move as a step in civil-aviation modernisation. The report said the project would strengthen the carrier’s international competitiveness, support bilateral trade and tourism recovery, and promote regional economic integration.
On 22 October, a senior Cambodian delegation visited COMAC’s headquarters in Shanghai for discussions on aircraft selection, airworthiness certification, safety assessment, maintenance systems and commercial-service preparations. The two sides agreed to complete the necessary airworthiness, safety, maintenance and personnel-training arrangements before the C909 entered service.
The agreement envisaged the purchase of 20 C909 aircraft, comprising ten firm orders and ten subsequent purchase options. COMAC would provide its “6S integrated service support”, including operations and maintenance, supply-chain assurance, spare-parts supply, technical assistance and personnel training, to help Cambodia build independent aircraft-operation and maintenance capabilities.
The carrier’s vice-chairman said the C909 offered favourable fuel efficiency and range and would strengthen connections with second- and third-tier Chinese cities and major Southeast Asian destinations, supporting the future development of its route network.
