Malaysian police recently dismantled a transnational fraud group, discovering two alleged scam sites disguised as call centers in Selangor and arresting 24 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in online investment and lucky-draw scams. Police said the group primarily targeted people in China and was suspected of having operated for about two months. Selangor police said the operation began on the afternoon of November 26. Officers first raided an apartment in Sepang, where they found an alleged scam center running a “lucky draw” scheme and arrested 14 suspects. Just hours later, police identified another unit in a nearby residential area, uncovered an alleged scam site using foreign-exchange investment as a pretext, and arrested 10 Chinese men and women. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects called or contacted victims online to lure them into fake lucky draws and investment schemes, promising high returns to obtain their money. All suspects were being detained for further investigation. Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid similar scams. Compiled by this station
