Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on his official social media on the morning of December 8, 2025, that Cambodian front-line forces must continue to exercise restraint despite coming under fire from all types of weapons used by the aggressor. He said the firing had continued from the previous night into that morning and was intended to provoke Cambodian forces into retaliating, thereby undermining the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire and peace declaration. Hun Sen said that red lines which must not be crossed had already been set. Commanders at every level must therefore continue to brief and educate officers and soldiers so that they shared a clear understanding, a common outlook and adherence to the principles. Regarding the border situation, Hun Sen instructed authorities at all levels to continue assisting and moving civilians fleeing dangerous areas to places of safety. Hun Sen also said that he had set aside other work to join the prime minister in directing the armed forces to resist aggression and to monitor the situation closely. Hun Sen asked for understanding from domestic and international visitors who could not meet him at that time, as national security work had to take priority. On the same occasion, Hun Sen encouraged all Cambodian male and female athletes taking part in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, calling on them to continue competing under the normal arrangements then in place.
