Cambodian interior authorities said on December 10 that police had detained 75 Thai nationals, including 48 women, during a joint operation at a suspected cross-border online scam site in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district. The report alleged that the site was disguised as a farm and operated for an overseas criminal group.
The December 9 afternoon operation was coordinated by the anti-scam committee with the national police, Phnom Penh’s unified command and prosecutors. Officers seized computers, mobile phones and other electronic equipment suspected of use in fraud. The people and evidence were handed to national police for further questioning and technical analysis.
Law-enforcement authorities said the investigation was continuing in depth, with technical teams tracing the organisation’s structure and key participants. The site had been closed in accordance with the law. Police said Cambodia was continuing to intensify its crackdown on telecom fraud and would severely punish any individuals or groups involved under the law, to safeguard national security and public order.
