Malaysian customs authorities announced on Wednesday that they had seized artificial intelligence (AI) chips worth about 49.5 million ringgit, or approximately US$12 million, as authorities step up a crackdown on networks suspected of smuggling high-performance semiconductors through the country’s airports.
Airport customs director Aspalila Ag Tuah told reporters that authorities found 30 server units containing AI chips during an inspection at the free trade zone of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Malaysia has imposed export controls on the movement of AI chips of US origin following pressure from the United States to prevent those chips from reaching China. By: Rithy
