Switzerland: Cambodia has asked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to continue monitoring the welfare of 18 Cambodian soldiers and urge Thailand to release all of them. The request was made during a working meeting in Switzerland between Senior Minister Ly Thuch, First Vice-President of Cambodia’s mine action authority, and ICRC Vice-President Gilles Carbonnier.
Ly Thuch thanked the ICRC for its cooperation and support in Cambodia’s efforts to secure the release of the 18 soldiers, whose detention by the Thai military Cambodia describes as unlawful. He asked the ICRC to keep monitoring their welfare and press Thailand to release all of them as soon as possible so they could return safely to their families. Gilles Carbonnier replied that the ICRC would continue monitoring the Cambodian soldiers’ welfare and pledged to keep working on the matter with all relevant parties.
The report noted that December 2, 2025, marked the 126th day that the 18 Cambodian soldiers had been held by the Thai military.
